Every Knee Shall Bend
In a diary entry on Christmas Eve, 1720, St. Paul of the Cross wrote, “I felt much tenderness this day especially remembering the infinite love of our dear God in becoming human in being born amid such lack of comfort and in such poverty; in this I take my rest in God.” We Passionists celebrate this Divine Nativity with a deep awareness of the hope it brings, but we are compelled to recall the suffering which must be endured by the Savior in order to fulfill the promise of life eternal. Though mindful of the wood of the cross, we can still rejoice at the wooden trough which became a crib. The Passionists share with you this collection of music for Advent and Christmas as one means of keeping God’s promise alive in our own time. The selections range from Gregorian chant and newly arranged Christmas carols, to contemporary works in styles taken from many traditions and cultures. It is our hope that these compositions and arrangements will inspire hope in the power of God’s saving presence.
