2 Chr 24:17-25

This has always been a difficult passage for me. It is true that things have always worked out – I have always had food to eat and clothes to wear. I can’t help but think of the many people around the world who die of starvation or go naked – many of whom are men and women of faith.
In my own life, I am urged to start saving money – for kids, college funds, retirement. I can’t help but think that this too, smacks of “worrying about tomorrow.”
Where I am able to gain some insight is in the opening of the reading, with the statement that “No one can serve two masters.” It is a warning against letting the material concerns displace our focus on God. Working in volunteer groups, or in the hospital as a doctor, it can be very easy to let the material relief I provide eclipse the reason for doing it: service to God.
Later on, Jesus adds, “seek first the Kingdom of God.” It is not wrong to want to feed the hungry, or plan for retirement, but if that becomes the primary focus, then we are led astray. God has to come first.

Jesus wants to be included in our daily lives, we can always ask Him to help us in prayer and offering all our day to Him. He wants us to Place all our Trust in Him. If we do this our day and choices become holy.
