St Ann’s Novena Honors the Grandmother of Jesus
St Ann’s Novena begins on Tuesday, July 17 and runs through Tuesday, July 26 at the Basilica of the National Shrine to St. Ann in West Scranton, PA.

The preachers for St Ann’s Novena this year are Fr. Patrick Brennan, C.P. and Fr. James O’Shea, C.P. They have chosen “Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again rejoice!” as the theme for their daily reflections.
Masses and novena services will be held several times daily, with Bishop Joseph C. Bambera of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton celebrating the feast day’s closing Mass at 7:30 p.m.

Father Pat Brennan is the retreat director of the Passionists’ Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center in Sierra Madre, Calif., and last served as a novena preacher nearly a decade ago.
Father Jim O’Shea is a community organizer in Brooklyn, N.Y., who has worked for access to affordable housing and opportunities for at-risk youth. He directs Re-Connect, an organization that aims to help young men develop positive behaviors through entrepreneurial and service projects, like a green market and a catering service.
