Weekday before Epiphany
1 John 3:11-21
Psalm 100:1b-2, 3, 4, 5
God knows your heart
One of the more intriguing as well as compelling events in the Gospel is today’s reading from John. Andrew’s friend, Philip has also come to know Jesus and shares his excitement with Nathanael. Nate is less than impressed. That doesn’t stop Philip. He uses the exact words of Jesus to invite Nathanael, “Come and see.” What Nate didn’t expect was Jesus’ knowledge and compassion.
Some might say that Nathanael was at prayer or searching for a direction in his life. If he was looking an opportunity to be part of a cause larger than himself, Jesus was the answer to his heart’s desire. The wonderful thing is that Jesus let him know that his prayer was heard and his desire would be fulfilled.
Let’s not just leave this as the story of Nathanael and Philip and Jesus. Our Biblical imagination has to make us a part of the story. Where will Jesus find you today? Do you believe that He knows and accepts you, no matter what is going on in your mind and heart? Suggestion: read the Gospel again and let Jesus in on your dream.
