This day I set before you life and death, choose life! This is a choice set before each of us every day. As the opening prayer of today’s Mass prays,’ you founded all the commands of your sacred Law upon love of you and of our neighbor, grant that by keeping your precepts we may merit to attain eternal life. Jesus warned the seventy two he sent out to prepare people for his own coming among them that not all would be open to their message, their invitation,‘ the kingdom of God has come near to you.’
It is when we try each day, to live a life of love and acceptance of people who come into our lives regardless of their faith, nationality, social standing or life style we choose life. It is when we try each day to live a life that seeks justice for struggling men and women, shelter for homeless families, employment for those looking for work and acceptance of immigrants, we choose life.
Some days we win and some days we lose but, by God’s grace, we keep trying.
