Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
We all do it. We wait for the right opportunity, the right time, be it the weather, friends, pay scale, home, or health. We wait for that one day when all will be fine.
The Scriptures say something similar. There will be a great day. The return of Jesus, the resurrections of the dead, and life everlasting are given as a reason for our hope and told in many different parables throughout the Bible. We are to grow in our faith, hope, and love of God and neighbor.
The growth is in body, mind, and spirit and that growth is in the midst of all sorts of circumstances. Jesus speaks in the parable of the varieties of things that could challenge and distract us from knowing God and experiencing God’s kindness. This is what we have to be on the lookout to avoid. Our prayer each day is the opportunity to receive God’s life and love in our hearts and minds. Prayer also is our way of showing thankfulness and praise for what we have received.
Finally, we don’t do this alone. God gives us people in our lives who can help us to grow and to recognize the goodness all around us. We have family, Church, friends, and co-workers who share our faith and vision that God’s will might be done. Let us join and support these efforts for a good day today and a better day tomorrow.
