Our Lady of Lourdes
Today’s liturgy is the memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, commemorating the appearance of Mary to Bernadette Soubirous on this day in 1858.
The proper reading for this day, from the Gospel of John, is the wedding feast at Cana. The newly married couple have run out of wine at the wedding reception. Mary tells Jesus about it, but he is reluctant to do anything about it, because “My hour has not yet come.” Mary then tells the waiters, “Do whatever he tells you.” Jesus takes the large jars of water on hand and has the servants take them to the head waiter. The water has become wine.
Jesus the good son, listens to his mother even if he would rather not. We should trust in Mary, pray to her and ask her to intercede for us with her son Jesus, especially on this feast of Our Lady of Lourdes
