In our first reading we read about rain falling on earth and making it fruitful. Then we read that God’s word that comes from God’s mouth shall not return to God empty but that it shall accomplish the purpose for which it was sent. In John’s gospel we read; ‘In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us."
We know that the Word did not return to God empty. Jesus accomplished the purpose for which He was sent. Through his Passion, Death and Resurrection Jesus reconciled the world to God.
Lent offers all of us to think about this wonder. The Lord laid on him the chastisement of us all and by his wounds we are healed.
Lent is a season that calls us to prayer, fasting and alms giving. May our prayer be a prayer of thanksgiving to the crucified Christ for the pain and humiliation He suffered to bring us back into his Father’s embrace.
