Father Fidelis Kent Stone, C.P. (1840-1921) past president of Kenyon as well as Hobart Colleges, a widower, convert, preacher and Catholic apologist and before his death, reconciled with his family.

1972

Father Richard Kugelman, C.P., (1908-1981) was a charter member of The Catholic Biblical Association (CBA) serving as president from 1972 to 1973. Father Aloysius McDonough, C.P.,(1902-1967) served as Secretary of the Theological Society of America from 1961 until 1963. 

2019

Thomas Berry, C.P.  (1914-2009) was an ecotheologian who encouraged respect for the spiritual journey of humanity and the earth. In 2019 Columbia University Press published his biography. In early 2022, the former Bishop Molloy Retreat House at the Immaculate Conception Monastery was, after almost two years of renovation, renamed Thomas Berry Place. In his honor, we still host retreats, but also welcome outside groups to partake of our amenities. The building is now solar powered, most furniture utilizes recycled materials, and much of the vegetables and some fruits served are organically grown on our premises, just feet from our dining rooms! We are working on a hydroponic garden to add to our self sustainability. 

1944

Many Passionists have served as military chaplains. Father Fabian Flynn, C.P. (1905-1973) was at Omaha Beach, France 1944 in World War II and ministered European Refugees after the war. In 2019 Catholic University Press published his biography.  

1967

Passionists published The Sign, a National Catholic Monthly from 1921 to 1982 in which Katherine Kurz Burton (1897-1969) authored monthly column Woman to Woman from 1933 to 1969.

1967 - 1975

Passionist voice in American Catholic Media was  Father Fidelis Rice, C.P. (1908-1978) who inaugurated “The Chalice of Salvation” weekly T.V. mass in the 1950s and was a pioneer of the Catholic Broadcasters Association. Father Augustine Paul Hennessy, C.P. (1914-2004) served as Editor of Sign Magazine from 1967 to 1975.

1990

Fr. Robin Ryan, C.P., Ph.D., is an award-winning professor, theologian, author, and experienced retreat leader. He serves as an Assoc Professor of Systematic Theology and Director of the Master of Arts in Theology program at Catholic Theological Union.
