1926
Between 1921 to 1948, 80 Passionists served as missionaries to China. In 1926, Passionists and the Sisters of Charity, Convent Station, New Jersey provided famine relief in Hunan province.
1930s &
1940s
With zeal and hope Passionists and Chinese nourished the Catholic faith in Yuanling, Hunan, China during the 1930s and 1940s.
1989
Fathers Marcellus White, C.P., & Justin Garvey, C.P. suffered in Chinese prison 1953 to 1955. Upon release from prison both promoted reconciliation with China.
In 1989 Father Marcellus met Joseph Zheng, a former Passionist orphan from Hunan, China.
2004
In 2004 Local Chinese Catholics dedicated a grave marker as a living memorial to deceased missionaries who gave their lives and are buried in West Huan, China. The Passionist presence continues to seek various relationships of friendship with the Chinese people.
