When Passionists first arrived in America in 1852, these United States (all 31 of them) looked quite different than they do today.
With the Industrial Revolution just concluded and a calamitous and bloody Civil War still 8 years in the future, America was a society in continuous transition. Yet just as we as a country can map events in our shared present to their origins one hundred years or more before, so too can today’s Passionists identify and draw connections between seemingly unrelated events in the trajectory of our order in America.
In ways small and profound, the history of Passionists in America is the story of Passionists today.
