Fr. William Murphy, C.P.
3rd Consultor
Fr. William Murphy, C.P. grew up in Baltimore, Maryland in a Passionist parish and attended high school and college seminary of his local community. Following novitiate, he studied theology at the Passionist house of studies and also at St. John’s University in Jamaica, NY. After being ordained in 1973, Fr. Bill began his ministry on the itinerant preaching band, also working in the retreat ministry in Riverdale, NY and Springfield, MA. Most of his ministry has been in parishes in locations such as Scranton, PA, Atlanta, GA, Tarboro, NC, Baltimore, MD and Jamaica, NY. Fr. Bill was able to supplement his theological studies at St. John’s Collegeville, MN and the prestigious University of Notre Dame in the area of liturgy, which is still his greatest area of interest. He had the wonderful opportunity to work for five years in the Passionist Community in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
At present, our beloved Fr. Bill is on the pastoral staff at Immaculate Conception Parish in, Jamaica, NY. Most of his bio lists places where he worked or works, but he carries with him, deeply in his heart, people from each location as his greatest gift.
Father relaxes by reading and enjoying especially fantasy-type books. His biggest “fantasy” though is that the Orioles and Ravens will win championships someday (obvious as a native Baltimorean!). He enjoys the chance to minister to the Passionist community as part of the Provincial Council this term.
